Water’s Edge Restaurant was founded in 1980 by Marika & Stuart Somerstein. They had a vision of creating a five star, elegant restaurant with the magnificent Manhattan skyline as a backdrop. Located in Long Island City on a barge in the East River, the restaurant began to set a standard for exceptional cuisine and service.
As a few years past, captivated by the breathtaking panoramic views of the Manhattan Skyline, more and more people were asking about private parties, Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs & Corporate events.
In 1986, Water’s Edge had major renovations done, giving it it’s upper level for all your banquet & private party needs. Along with its eclectic menus and extraordinary service Water’s Edge was coming into it’s own as one of the up & coming premier “on the water” locations for private events.
Water’s Edge was now presented with another obstacle, how to make it more convenient for guests to reach us. In 1990, Water’s Edge introduced its Water Taxi. This convenient & complimentary service allowed guests in New York City to be picked up at the 34th Street pier and brought to our front door, giving manhattanites the magical beginning to a marvelous dining experience and “the” reason to come to Queens.
In 1999, Water’s Edge acquired the Luxury Yacht, M/V Marika. Docked in front of the restaurant, Marika is available for all social & corporate parties. The beautifully appointed, bi-level M/V Marika is fully equipped with luxurious restrooms, a fully stocked commercial kitchen, state of the art sound system and dance floor. The 90 foot vessel is available for events up to 149 guests.
Even today, 25 years later, Water’s Edge Restaurant is still a constant destination for travelers and New York natives searching for the ultimate in exceptional service, extraordinary cuisine and views that can definitely not be duplicated.
